Heidelberg’s Busy Bee Signature Quilt, 1895-96
26 April @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEST
An event every week that begins at 2:00 pm on Sunday, repeating until 26 April 2020
During 1895-96, a Busy Bee group in Heidelberg, Victoria, made a signature quilt to raise funds for their local Scots Church. Contributors embroidered names or other identifiers on the cotton squares. The Busy Bees pieced the squares together. The quilt testifies to their church and family connections as well as their community, business, government and social networks in Heidelberg, Prahran, Williamstown and elsewhere. This intriguing exhibition, commended in the 2019 Victorian Community History Awards, tells the story of the making and survival of the quilt.
